heian yondan

heian yondan, number four of the heian kata, introduces many more new techniques, including the first uses of the knees and elbows. much of the techniques are directed to jodan level, with techniques forming vicious combinations. the back stance is prominent, as is the use of slow techniques mixed in with fast. the combination of side snap kick yoko-geri keage and back-fist uraken is a feature found in many advanced kata.

important points for heian yondan:
- synchronised finishing of slow moves
- posture in back stance
- making shallow angles in stance on the wedging blocks
- not reaching too high for uraken and double hand grab
- large preparation for augmented blocks
