grading syllabus

the list below gives the grading syllabus for each successive grade, and outlines what techniques are required and thus can be expected at each grading. note that the examiner may not stick to the syllabus exactly, but may ask for variations as they see fit, and so it is worthwhile taking the time to know techniques both as individual techniques and as part of larger combinations.

at each successive grade up to brown belt, all techniques from previous gradings will usually be asked for. after brown belt, techniques are no longer performed from kihon stances, but from the freestyle jiyu-dachi and vary accordingly.
